A Note From Our Founder
Growing Up
I grew up on a small farm in central Wisconsin. When we weren’t doing our chores my brothers and I spent most of our time exploring the outdoors and caring for the animals. When I look back, I realize the lessons I learned on that farm are to do hard things, always keep learning and exploring, and to never give up on your dreams.
Do Hard Things
One of my least favorite jobs growing up on the farm was what we called “picking rocks”. Picking rocks is where you go out into a field and clear out all the rocks that were pushed to the surface during the winter months so the field can be planted. It is the sort of work that nobody really sees, because people only care about the harvest at the end of the summer. Picking rocks is time consuming, it is tedious, and it is hard work; whether people see that work or not it still needs to be done.
The work I do as a lawyer allows me to clear the path for others. It allows me to help our clients grow their visions and chase down their dreams. Doing hard work where others aren’t looking isn’t always easy, but it is rewarding, and it is important.
Learning and Exploring
Despite growing up with limited means, my parents always made sure we took time as a family to travel. We spent each summer touring the country and learning about different places and people. Those trips are some of my most treasured memories from my childhood. Those trips allowed me to see a very different world from the farm I was growing up on and they taught me how important learning and exploring are to me.
I am now fortunate that my work takes me from Miami, to New York, to London and beyond. I’ve met amazing people throughout my career, and I have learned so much. One of my favorite things about being a lawyer and working with our fantastic clients is that I learn something new each day, I get to explore something new each day. Our clients come from all over the world and have incredible and unique stories and there is always something amazing about each one of them.
Never Give Up
Probably my favorite thing my father and I spent time doing while I was growing up, and still spend time doing together, is fishing. Fishing with my father taught me many things, including patience and a respect for nature. It also taught me to never give up. If you want something, stay with it, and keep working at it. Fishing also taught me that it is not always about the rewards, but often it is even more about the process and who you are spending your time with.
We work with some of the most dedicated, caring professionals in the entire financial services industry. They understand the hard work it takes to achieve their goals and be successful, and they never give up on the work and the process. There are no other clients I would rather be on this journey with than our clients.
